Several years ago, Appendix B of the old Auxiliary Basic Qualification course (which dealt with the history of the Coast Guard Auxiliary) was extensively revised and rewritten by Dr. John Tilly for the Coast Guard. The revision was reviewed and approved by the Coast Guard's Historian (Dr. Robert Browning) and the Auxiliary Historian (the late Sonny Martin). It is especially worth reading.
